Yama(t)ji War Memorial

Memorial
A “living memorial to our people”

While Aboriginal Australians have joined their fellow countrymen to fight in all wars since the Boer War, few were honoured in the same way as their white counterparts - until now. Bundiyarra Cultural Precinct in Geraldton features a memorial honouring Aboriginal servicemen and women. The memorial lists the names of 260 local Aboriginal men and women who served. As names will continue to be added to the memorial as they become available, memorial co-founder and returned serviceman Ron Cross described it as a “living memorial to our people - some who served when they were not even classified as citizens of our country.”
