This painting captures the iconic Exchange Hotel on the corner of Hannan and Maritana Streets, Kalgoorlie. During the gold rush there were 96 hotels and numerous saloon bars on the streets of Kalgoorlie and Boulder. The Exchange Hotel is a great example of Federation Freestyle Architecture, and stands out as an example of an ornamental hotel of the period.
