Balzano’s diary

Book
Barrow man

This diary is a day-to-day life account of James Balzano who was born in Italy, in 1859. He had travelled the world before following the goldrush to Western Australia. Balzano travelled the Pilbara, Murchison and Goldfields with his wooden barrow. It was the main mode of transport for prospectors in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The Balzano Barrow Race between Kanowna and Kalgoorlie is held in his honour.
