Grinding stone and base

Hidden grinding stones

In a delightful grove, amongst the swaying strands of spinifex grasses, these grinding stones are located close to a freshwater pool. They speak of the ingenuity of tools that Aboriginal women used to live in this landscape. With grasses covering the hills and plains, and acacias loaded with edible seeds, there was an abundance of food to be had, if you knew how to process it with a grinding stone, which was like a mortar and pestle. Winnowing and grinding seeds to make a protein-rich damper was a staple.
