It’s hard to imagine how you would be able to learn woodworking skills without your sight, let alone make fine furniture, but that is what local resident Dick Clarke was able to do. Dick was blinded while fighting in World War I. He then learnt Braille, carpentry and cabinet making and became known for his fine woodworking skills, using these well worn tools including the Braille ruler.
