Princess Royal Fortress

Immerse yourself in this site which is brimming with military history. Beyond the modern National Anzac Centre (see separate entry) there is a wealth of fascinating history to be discovered as you walk around the historic Fortress. Defensive gun batteries are still in place, nestled into the sides of Mount Adelaide, and many of the old buildings have been repurposed to tell the stories of the men and women who served here from when it was the first federal defence of Australia in 1893. The exhibitions in the Barracks Gallery present items from the extensive Collection along with photographs and fascinating information. The handsome and poignant Roll of Honour, displayed in this Gallery, commemorates those from the Albany district who enlisted in World War 1.
