Many collections begin as collections of rare, intriguing or unusual objects. Maude McGinn (nee Daw) grew up in Esperance, and in the 1920s she travelled the world and collected souvenirs. The Maude McGinn Collection includes several curios such as a wooden inkwell from Grindelwald in Switzerland; a carved stone buffalo; Murano glass bought in Venice, Italy; and a circular brooch from Thursday Island.
